We love dining in a sophisticated, modern restaurant in the Hamptons as a welcome relief from the traffic and house shares. The spare environment of Rugosa (a kind of rose) is uber-relaxing and has very cool touches like potted white orchids, and paintings of giant oranges and giant fish. The women here wear white pants [...]

This laid back surf shack mixes its tasty Mexican menu with a day at the beach. Diners in swimsuits dust the sand off their feet while enjoying their meals at picnic tables in an intimate backyard setting. But don’t let the low-key vibe and the paper plates fool you—La Fondita is serious about its unique [...]

We were just reminded of Babette’s at Ladles of Love, where the community-minded restaurant was serving up gingered avocado and cucumber soup to benefit local food pantries. Vegetarians and healthy eaters have long known where to head in East Hampton. At Babette’s [...]

The best thing about Nick & Toni’s is the parking lot.
Don’t get me wrong. The $46 steak is decent. The foie gras is even better. Yet it’s the parking lot that makes this one of the more tolerable places to eat out East.
We use mass transit in Manhattan. But we use cars, preferably Ferraris, in the Hamptons, [...]

“Delta Air Lines” was inscribed on the knives. But we weren’t on a flight, we were dining in the Hamptons at a land-based eatery that evokes the universally miserable experience of eating crummy food in an economy class seat.
Welcome to the Blue Parrot, a decades-old haunt that reopened this summer; it had closed in 2006. [...]

AFTER hoovering a scrumptious Sunday brunch at the North Fork Table and Inn in Southold’s wine country — improbably, the only place on the East End to crack the top five of the 2009-10 Zagat guide to Long Island restaurants — I experienced a burst of contemplative indignation stoked by a local Borghese 2005 Pinot Noir and crispy cod [...]

YES, Brian Alalu was dropping $950 on a fancy bicycle. And yes, his half-share in a house here is costing $4,500. And yes, he will probably go out to the Lobster Roll restaurant for the occasional plate of $21 fried oysters.
But do not characterize Mr. Alalu’s planned summer of 2009 as fabulous.
Because his idea, his [...]

For a sophisticated dinner atmosphere in Southampton, head to Red Bar Brasserie. We found social groups of 30-somethings and romantic couples dining among the white walls, potted palms and soft candlelight. We did not find a lot of 20-something house-share partiers. It’s not just about the scene at Red Bar (like some Hamptons restaurants); it’s [...]

You don’t have to live on the local deli or whatever is close by when you are starving. Eat healthy and delicious food when in the Hamptons. From our health-concious, in-the-know friends at Vital Juice New York:
Fill your beach tote with good-for-you finds from Annie’s Organic Café and Market. It’s also perfect for a refueling [...]

We love downtown Montauk’s chill vibe and 668 The Gig Shack fits right in. This unassuming restaurant, named for the telephone area code, serves up casual, creative food like Lamburginis (spiced lamb sliders), Montacos (crispy fish tacos with mango salsa) and watermelon smoothies. Quesadillas and coconut shrimp are also popular. Everything seemed to come with [...]
