Karen Lynn Ferraro: Feng Shui — the Chinese words for wind and water – is the foundation of living consciously. Feng Shui is like acupuncture for the home: opening up the energy meridians of the space to allow emotional and physical energy to flow.
Q: What can one do to Feng Shui a summer share room?
KLF: Most likely a room in a ‘house share’ situation is likely to provide basic needs for sleeping and getting ready for a day out. What is likely to be missing is the comforts that nurture us so we sleep well, feel energized and maintain good physical and emotional health. Here is a checklist of some items to consider bringing along or picking up along the way:
. Fresh flowers – bring in the sweetness and joy of life with fragrant colorful flowers. Even better – get two stems of orchids or roses and put them in the relationship corner of the bedroom. As you are standing in the doorway of the bedroom, it’s the far right corner.
. Essential oil spray or a travel candle can represent clearing the air and energy from previous occupants, allowing you to bring your essence into the space.
. Bring music.
. Fruit basket/bowl – reflecting abundance and reminding you to eat healthy.
. If you are responsible for linens – select a special color that you love to support good sleep. Choose bamboo or organic cotton to be in harmony with nature. That goes for pillows, too!
. As you pick up shells, beach glass and stones during your days at the beach, place them in a bowl or dish with water and display them in your room – this will bring in the earth and water energy to give you balance!
See if you can move the bed to a better position. Best position is on one of the walls opposite the door so you can see the door when you are lying down.
Q: How can Feng Shui help one have a Hamptons summer romance?
KLF: Being on vacation in the Hamptons puts one into surroundings that allow for a change of heart, a rise in feelings of desire and a reconnection with nature. Being exposed to sun, surf, sand, trails, golf courses, polo grounds and more, we become in touch with nature and our natural tendencies. Whether you’re single or have a partner, feeling inner joy and sense of calm allows for feelings of love and romance to open up.
From a Feng Shui perspective, a vacation or getaway naturally clears away clutter and daily interruptions that distract and cause interference with being in a state of flow.
A few don’ts:
. Don’t throw put your suitcase in the relationship corner – this is a surefire message that says ‘romance is all packed up and heading out of town.’
. Don’t throw dirty laundry under the bed or in any corner – especially in the relationship corner or under the bed.
. Don’t live out of the suitcase – unpack and move in like you plan to make a loving connection!
