CassWorld on the Scene: Battle of the Sexes in the Hamptons

cassA friend of mine with a house in Southampton said he had a new friend, an attractive 28-year-old trade show model he met at The Javits Center. He invited her to come out East at the beginning of the summer season. He said they hooked up that weekend but then he decided not to ask her out again because she suggested they go out and shop at Saks Fifth Avenue the morning after they fooled around. He suggested that they just remain friends and said he would be happy to introduce her to fat, bald and ugly men with money who would be happy to buy her presents for the pleasure of her company. She said he didn’t know how to be a gentleman and left on the late-morning LIRR back to NYC. Despite the bad ending to an otherwise great weekend, they’ve remained friendly by flirting daily for weeks via txt msg. On a recent txt msg she said it was her birthday and that he had promised to buy her a $400 netbook for her birthday. He admitted to saying something like that right before closing the deal but he had assumed they would be dating. Since they are NOT dating my question is: Should he buy her the $400 netbook?

  1. YES. One of the four agreements is to be impeccable with your word.

Yeah he should! - she is clearly for-hire… he partook in the wares she was offering… you don’t go to a restaurant, finish your dinner and wine and then refuse to pay… on the flip side, if it was “good” for her, she also owes him… not sure what his going rate is…

  4. Only because he said he would. It’s not about the money, it’s about being truthful.

  5. Men always make a mistake and “buying time” when it come to women. this include offering to buy girl drink at the bar just so she will talk to you. When is the rest of us going to learn that buying people time will only get you fake friendship, fake love, fake…
In this case if he actually promise to buy her stuff before sleeping with her then he is no better than ” fat, bald and ugly men with money”
do youself a favor…stop contacting her and move on. Oh and make sure in the future that you have a contract ready if you gonna “accidentally” doing something like this again.

No. Frankly, I’d be surprised if the words, “I’ll buy you a netbook if you sleep with me.” were ever even uttered. Even if they think they were. That just sounds like jokie drunk convo to me. Also springing the whole “let’s go shopping” during the morning after pillow talk is just too late to mention that. If there were any real negotiations being made the night before that should have been discussed then. He should top texting her and move on. This will never stop if he doesn’t. Besides, what kind of “friend” hounds you for a $400 gift?

    nice.
and besides what does a trade show model need a netbook for. is she going to research the chemical compounds in the turtle wax that’s being used on the hoods of the cars she’s sitting on? i’m guessing that’s unlikely.
