To27: What makes the Hamptons a surf spot?  

Main Beach: There are several reasons. One is the south-facing beach. Two is the natural process of sand movement off-shore, creating sand bars. When waves touch the bottom, they stand up. When this happens off-shore, it is a favorable scenario. 

To27: What is the best beach here for surfing?

Main Beach: Well, that is hard to say. There are many great spots to surf, however, they change each year based on where the sand bars and breaks are set up. There is a well-known spot in Montauk that is probably the most consistent. You will have to stop by the shop for that one!

To27: If someone who has never surfed before walks into your shop, how can you help him?

Main Beach: A beginner surfer in the Hamptons will need a wetsuit for cool water and a decent quality longboard or fun shape surfboard to learn on. Some folks prefer a soft-top surfboard as a first choice. 

We always try to educate the customer about the sports they are interested in such as surfing, stand up paddling, kayaking or kite boarding… We focus on product expertise, participation in the sports we represent and local knowledge of our Hamptons’ natural resources.

To 27: What are some of your most exciting events coming up?

Main Beach: We have some great full moon and fireworks kayak and paddleboard tours over the July 4th weekend. We have a long board demonstration on Friday, July 17th from 3pm to 7pm. We have our summer gear swap on July 18th and 19th and a variety of great tours and excursions for paddlers and surfers throughout the summer and fall.
